How it works:
Using patented technology the VIVE surround microphone contains multiple microphone elements and a patented encoding process which, when decoded with a standard Dolby Digital 5.1 decoder, translate to the standard surround sound speaker configuration; L, R, C, LFE, LS, RS. The discrete channels are encoded and output as a stereo signal from a stereo mini-plug. These left and right stereo signals can then be connected to the stereo audio inputs on a video camera or any stereo recorder. The encoded signal is recorded onto the media in the camera or recorder. At this point the captured audio can be played back in full 5.1 channel surround over any Dolby equipped home theater system.
Using this amazing new product allows you to use all your home theater speakers for listening to the videos you make on your camcorder. No longer will your surround speakers remain silent while watching your home videos. Once the signal is received by a home theater system containing a Dolby decoder, the channels are unfolded to their original state. Where no home theater receiver is detected, the signal will simply be heard in stereo.
